ARSENIC AND OLD LACE:

This zany dark-comedy revolves around the sweet Brewster sisters: Abby and Martha. The home and the sisters are reminiscent of the of Victorian charm of another era. The sisters share their home with their nephew, Teddy, who believes himself to be Theodore Roosevelt.

These seemingly innocent sisters advertise their home as a boarding house, especially catering to elderly men who have no family or friends to care for them. As a mercy, these charitable women end the loneliness of these gentlemen travelers by poisoning them with their own special blend of elderberry wine. Meanwhile, Teddy digs graves for the gentlemen, which he believes to be yellow fever victims, in the cellar, which he believes to be the locks in Panama.

The action begins to take off when the sisters' other nephew, Mortimer, arrives and announces his engagement to the Reverend's daughter Elaine, who lives next door to the Brewsters. Mortimer discovers a fresh cadaver in the window seat and begins to uncover the little secret of his aunts. Mortimer finds himself caught up in a dilemma of how to handle the situation while he questions his own sanity. The plot thickens with the appearance of still another nephew, the convict Jonathan with his sidekick and plastic surgeon, Dr. Einstein, who have brought their own "guest" to dispose of in the Brewster home.

This slapstick comedy is loaded with laughs as bodies begin to pop up in the window seat of the home. With all the chaos around him, Mortimer must somehow clear up the situation, prevent his aunts from going to prison, commit Teddy, get rid of Jonathan, and get married... all in one day! Not without a load of laughs, however, and a few "charges."  Performances were June 08-10, 8:00 PM Uxbridge Music Hall.
